Redeeming a land through the shedding of blood

The land of America, the present-day United States, has been given as a gift to God's people many times through history.

It was first given to Adam and his posterity. Through iniquity, they forfeited ownership. God redeemed the land through the slaughter of almost every inhabitant, saving only Noah and his family.

It was given to the Jaredites. Through iniquity, they forfeited ownership. God redeemed the land through the slaughter of almost every inhabitant, saving only Coriantumr, who was given enough time to testify of the wickedness of his people.

It was given to the Nephites. Through iniquity, they forfeited ownership. God redeemed the land through the slaughter of almost every Nephite, saving only Moroni, who was given enough time to write the tale as a witness to the wickedness of the Nephites.

It was given to the Lamanites. Through iniquity, they forfeited ownership. God redeemed the land through the slaughter of an astonishing number of Lamanites. Scholars estimate that diseases introduced by Columbus killed up to 90% of the pre-Columbian population, even before the Pilgrims arrived in America to eventually destroy the majority of those who remained.

It was given to the European Gentiles. God said:
And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood. (D&C 101:80)
Never in the history of the world (excepting perhaps the three instances of Zion we are aware of) has so much of God's principles for righteous governance been embodied by a people. We tend to vastly underestimate the amount of light and truth given to the founding fathers, probably because the principles they were given were so simple. Yet, they were given a considerable portion of the law of Zion, and they received what they were given. Today, we have apostatized so far from that law that they would not recognize this country as being the one they founded. Through our iniquity, we have forfeited ownership.

God has taught throughout scripture that in order to redeem a land, blood must be shed. Using the examples given in scripture, whose blood is shed, and by whom is it shed? It is at our doors, and there is nothing that can be done now to stop it. We can only repent as individuals, and succumb to God's will for us in what will follow.
