Civil war

I have talked about how, in our day, we will see person against person, town against town, ideology against ideology, and so on.

For years after I first said these things (in 2015, maybe even before that), people publicly and privately mocked me.

I'm not the only one in modern or former times who has warned of these things.

4 And it shall come to pass, after many days, slaves shall rise up against their masters, who shall be marshaled and disciplined for war.
5 And it shall come to pass also that the remnants who are left of the land will marshal themselves, and shall become exceedingly angry, and shall vex the Gentiles with a sore vexation.
6 And thus, with the sword and by bloodshed the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn; and with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightning also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed hath made a full end of all nations;
7 That the cry of the saints, and of the blood of the saints, shall cease to come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, from the earth, to be avenged of their enemies. (D&C 87)

But what about the American nation. That war that destroyed the lives of some fifteen or sixteen hundred thousand people was nothing, compared to that which will eventually devastate that country. The time is not very far distant in the future, when the Lord God will lay his hand heavily upon that nations. "How do you know this? inquires one." I know from the revelations which God has given upon this subject. I read these revelations, when they were first given. I waited over twenty-eight years and saw their fulfillment to the very letter. [Referring to D&C 87] Should I not, then, expect that the balance of them should be fulfilled? That same God who gave the revelations to his servant Joseph Smith in regard to these matters, will fulfil every jot and every tittle that has been spoken, concerning that nation. What then will be the condition of that people, when this great and terrible war shall come? It will be very different from the war between the North and the South. Do you wish me to describe it? I will do so. It will be a war of neighborhood against neighborhood, city against city, town against town, county against county, state against state, and they will go forth destroying and being destroyed and manufacturing will, in a great measure, cease, for a time, among the American nation. Why? Because in these terrible wars, they will not be privileged to manufacture, there will be too much bloodshed--too much mobocracy--too much going forth in bands and destroying and pillaging the land to suffer people to pursue any local vocation with any degree of safety. What will become of millions of the farmers upon that land? They will leave their farms and they will remain uncultivated, and they will flee before the ravaging armies from place to place; and thus will they go forth burning and pillaging the whole country; and that great and powerful nation, now consisting of some forty millions of people, will be wasted away, unless they repent. (JD, ORSON PRATT 20:151)

The time will come when there will be no safety in carrying on the peaceable pursuits of farming or agriculture. But these will be neglected, and the people will think themselves well off if they can flee from city to city, from town to town and escape with their lives. Thus will the Lord visit the people, if they will not repent. Thus will He pour out His wrath and indignation upon them and make manifest to the people that that which he has spoken must be fulfilled. (JD, ORSON PRATT 12:344)

I saw men hunting the lives of their own sons, and brother murdering brother, women killing their own daughters, and daughters seeking the lives of their mothers. I saw armies arrayed against armies. I saw blood, desolation, fires. The Son of man has said that the mother shall be against the daughters, and the daughter against the mother. These things are at our doors. They will follow the Saints of God from city to city. Satan will rage, and the spirit of the devil is now enraged. I know not how soon these things will take place; but with a view of them, shall I cry peace? No; I will lift up my voice and testify of them. How long you will have good crops, and the famine be kept off, I do not know; when the fig tree leaves, know then that the summer is nigh at hand. (TPJS, 161)

And now we see many of these things before our eyes. And it is going to get a lot worse.

The current conflagration is called by some a civil war. I've use that terminology myself, but I don’t like it because it evokes details that don’t fit what is and what will be. It will go far beyond what people expect when they hear "civil war."

This is much more than one team vs another. It is the gradual but complete breakdown of the restraints that divide civilization from chaos. When you kick out the supports, everything is susceptible to threats that would not have done much before. With our foundational principles removed, everything will cause more damage, and bad things will build on each other in an insufficiently mitigated feedback loop.

Things may seem crazy now, but this is mild. One thing that has kept things under control so far is the perception of justice and the rule of law. While approximately half the population still thinks these foundations are in place, about half know they are not. As it dawns on restrained people that these ideas—which do a great deal in restraining them—are no longer in place, they will start acting in similar ways as those who Know they are already gone.

While it is correct to describe the conflict in terms of this group vs that group as done at the outset of this post, it is more correct to say that this conflict is victimizer vs victim.

At present, the victimizers think they are victims. They have been allowed to tear down what protected the people they have victimized—upstanding, law abiding, hard working people. Meanwhile, the victims still largely have no idea as to the fact that they’ve been robbed and will be greatly abused.

As the real victims realize what has been and is being done to them, they are going to react.

Meanwhile, those who are preparing for Zion will resist the hysterical drive to take up arms in some mockery of the revolution of 1776. They will instead begin pleading with God incessantly to bring justice to this nation: to free the righteous from the persecution of those who are not by bringing the consequences of their iniquity upon them.
