Correspondence: Does the journey seem hard?

I received this email today:

"I have been reading your blogs and watching your videos, and It seems that each time I read / watch another, you raise the ante, making it nearly impossible for me to even grasp the possibly of eternal life, much less attaining it. If Job put a cap on his eternal progression, as you indicated, what does that say for the rest of us? I have [done a lot to come closer to God]. Though these things were big issues, your presentations clearly make them innocuous to me. I am trying to get the courage to lay everything on the altar, but your teachings seem to keep it just beyond reach. Any thoughts that you think might be helpful?"

Here is what I would say to anyone with similar comments:

We VASTLY underestimate what is required for eternal life. We also VASTLY underestimate the power of God to get us there.

The Lord has explained plainly that EVERYTHING is required to obtain all his has. Anything less is insufficient. There is no other way:

26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14)

The good news is that ALL of us are capable of doing what he asks us to do.

23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. (Mark 10)

We have to be honest with ourselves. If we fall short, it is only because of our choices. It is only because we are manifesting what we REALLY desire, which is less than what he offers us.
