Most people react to the cognitive dissonance brought on by the clear evidence that the events of today lead to crossing of their red lines tomorrow by saying things like:
"Gee, I'm glad this only applies to companies with more than 100 people. My company is smaller than that."
"I'm glad my kids are too young to be affected by that."
"Good thing my governor issued an order that exempts me from this."
Can you find peace in a situation where you are protected severe situations merely by narrow circumstance? When principles have been shattered, what is the difference between your situation and those of the ones harmed, other than chance? Do you lean on a broken reed as if it is a stone footing?
Are you treating sandy foundations like stone ones merely because it is not raining yet where you live or work?
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7)
As Elijah said to Ahab, I say to you: The rain is coming (see 1 Kings 18).
More importantly, can you ignore the plight of those already caught in the snare by merely saying you are glad it isn't you? If so, your heart is already waxed cold (Matthew 24:12).
Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (Hebrews 13:3)
If you find yourself in this condition, you do not have charity, and you stand in need of repentance.
And now I know that this love which thou hast had for the children of men is charity; wherefore, except men shall have charity they cannot inherit that place which thou hast prepared in the mansions of thy Father. (Ether 12:34)
