A sufficient invitation is invisible

When finishing drywall, the task at hand is to affix paper to each joint and adhere joint compound in such a way to make the raised edges of the paper invisible. This is done by creating a smooth, tapered transition.

When preaching the gospel, the typical approach is blunt, consisting of one or only a few interactions. Like capturing the area under a curve with only one polygon, the coverage of such an approach will be limited. Many opportunities where the gospel would have been accepted with more and smaller interactions will be missed.

To more accurately capture the area under a curve, more and thinner polygons must be used. To more expansively capture the set of people willing to accept the gospel, the way must be prepared through similar smoothing: more steps of smaller size.

Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. (Alma 37:6)

A sufficiently feathered edge is invisible. When complete, people might watch a replay of a video of the process and marvel at the difference before and after, and the skill and labor required to achieve it. If they were to see a much longer video of the years of hard work required to learn those skills, they would marvel at even greater magnitude.

When the agents of the devil create feathered edges, we call them snares that eventually trigger, or flaxen cords that turn into chains. The agents of the devil lead people into greater harm than they previously realized through persuading them to do what they never would if they knew what they were getting into. When the agents of God create feathered edges, we call it "fulfilling the covenants of the Father," grafting into the tree of life, or sealing people up to eternal life. The agents of the devil actively hide the truth from and lie to their victims. The agents of God lead people into greater benefit than they previously realized through persuading them to do what they never would if they knew what they were getting into. They repeatedly tell them the truth, but those they serve can't yet understand their words, even when given in the utmost plainness. Notice the subtle difference.

This is how the Lord is conducting his work in the last days. Everyone will be provided with everything needed to ascend as high as they will, and because of that, all will be left without excuse.

Now, reread this post substituting "improvement" for "the gospel."
