The next phase of food and housing in the United States

You will see people from wealthy areas continue to flood into poorer areas. They will radically increase property prices and bring their politics with them. Property prices will increase so much that the average person in these locations will no longer be able to afford traditional housing.  Very small homes and multi-generational households will increase, in addition to younger people having roommates for a lot longer than their college years.  The number of places that have affordable housing will decrease. Taxes on homes will increase, both in the amount taxed and the number of taxes. Look for new property taxes and subsidy programs that claim to assist in creating affordable housing. There will be disproportional taxes on larger homes, especially as fewer and fewer people buy traditional homes. None of this will solve the underlying problem, and you will see tent cities rise across the country, even while a great many people continue the appearance of normal life.  A similar situat

"They hear thy words, but they do them not"

28 For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through. 29 Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed. 30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. 31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33 And when this cometh to

Silly leper, tricks are for kids!

This morning I was pondering on the recent opportunities God has given me to share some things he has taught me with people who had prayed to him and asked for understanding and guidance on certain topics. What tends to happen in all these situations is that, as soon as they get what they had asked for, the person goes away. They either go away rejoicing with their goodies, content with the free loaves and fishes without stopping to ask where they came from and how and why, or they go away sorrowing, as did the rich young ruler we are always deriding while doing the same thing ourselves. When it comes to gratitude, God does not need our praise. He seeks our gratitude not for what it does for him, but what it does for us. He wants us to have joy, and joy comes from value. We can only value something to the extent that we know what it is, what it is worth, and what it costs. Those are three distinct things. Of a group of ten lepers that Jesus healed, only one came back to give thanks: 12

What are you prepared to do?

Most people will do what is right, subject to their personal comfort. They will do the right thing so long as it is easy and convenient. To be a child of God, and to find and retain a fullness of joy, you must do what is right, all the time, no matter what it costs you, up to and including your life. Children of God do what is right, no qualifications. They will have personal comfort subject to what is right; They will enjoy personal comfort only inasmuch as it is possible while doing what is right. As spartan as the God-first perspective seems, it truly is the only way to encounter and traverse paths that lead to outcomes beyond what you already know how to receive.  The paths you know can only lead to outcomes you already have. If you want something better, it can only be found in what you don’t know how to find. That path will—by definition—include things you don’t perceive as comfortable, easy, or convenient. Those who limit their paths to what is easy, convenient, or comfortable c

Signs and tokens

Good and evil both have their Shibboleths. Throughout the history of the world, those possessing uncommon wisdom and members of nefarious non-public organizations [1] alike could be discovered by those who knew their signs and tokens--things with special meaning to the initiated, but subtle enough to be overlooked by those who don't know what to look for.  In modern times, one need not look for secret handshakes or symbols or phrases to find out which individuals have sworn allegiance to ideologies that purport to be neutral or only mildly harmful on the surface while being extraordinarily harmful in reality.  While these signs and tokens certainly exist and are in use in our day, things have degraded to such an extent accordance with reality to identify those who subscribe to such ideologies--whether they do so via an explicitly subscribed membership, or whether they have merely allowed themselves to be manipulated into unknowingly adopting the same beliefs without even needing th

Feel the calling of a miracle

Religious people like to use the word "call." I haven't met a single one who actually knows what it means.  God is in all and through all things. Light is sprinkled and scattered in differing concentrations in everything we experience in the physical world. From time to time, we encounter things or people that stir something deep inside us. This is God calling to us, desperately trying to pry a bit of light through the dark, thick scales of our ignorance, apathy, and appetite for the meager and insufficient. Given two random people, it is highly unlikely that these sprinkles of light will affect them in the same way. Here's an example. At this precise moment, I find the following song extremely inspirational: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y78D8bDw3_M However, I shouldn't. The lyrics are cheesy. The music is before my time. The writers really liked LSD. And so on. And yet, listening to this song at this moment causes a flood of feeling and ideas that attracts oth

Oh that you could see more of God's love all at once...

Recently, I was helping one of my young kids learn how to swim. My daughter was convinced she needed a life jacket, and she was wrong. She eventually believed that she was able stay afloat without it, and then became convinced she could swim a short distance without clinging to someone. At one point, she said she would swim to me, and as she was, I slowly backed away until I reached the edge of the pool. As I did, I stepped aside, and she managed to get to the edge of the pool--far further than she thought she could. You do not love or trust God as much as you think you do. If you did, you would act very differently. Many of you need to be stirred up to repentance. God will increase the frequency and intensity of afflictions in your life, because that is the only way he has to reach you, and because he loves you enough to hurt you. Please, please wake up. This is not a cost-free endeavor. Those who are compelled to be humble must pay a greater price for the same joy obtained by those w

Where to move: a case study in revelation

As the events of the last days unfold, many people are seeing an increased need to move in order to improve their situation.  The Lord has promised many times that those who love and obey him will be prospered in the land: And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands. (1 Nephi 2:20) And he hath said that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land; but inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence. (2 Nephi 1:20) For the Lord God hath said that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land; and inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence. (2 Nephi 4:4) Etc, etc. What does it mean to be prospered in the land? It does not mean that you will be free from toil, affliction, or sorrow. Instead, it means that any

Changing Facebook Profiles

For various reasons, I'm switching Facebook profiles. I will try to post quotes from my books and other writings on the new page. I will make the posts public. If you are on Facebook, you can easily share these posts on your own pages. Of course, you can also always do that yourself. If ye will cast out the righteous from among you

Amulek told the people of Ammonihah:  21 Yea, well doth he cry, by the voice of his angels that: I will come down among my people, with equity and justice in my hands. 22 Yea, and I say unto you that if it were not for the prayers of the righteous, who are now in the land, that ye would even now be visited with utter destruction; yet it would not be by flood, as were the people in the days of Noah, but it would be by famine, and by pestilence, and the sword. 23 But it is by the prayers of the righteous that ye are spared; now therefore, if ye will cast out the righteous from among you then will not the Lord stay his hand; but in his fierce anger he will come out against you; then ye shall be smitten by famine, and by pestilence, and by the sword; and the time is soon at hand except ye repent. (Alma 10) I tell you that, even now, the righteous are being cast out by the wicked. They are losing their businesses, they are kicked out of their churches, they are being robbed of the fruits of

Free yourself from fools

Recently, we were all shown in plainness how quickly government officials can impose absurd and arbitrary requirements on society with stiff penalties. Did you notice? Do you care? What are you doing about it? As the world marches further from the truth, realize that the foolishness of others will have drastic implications on your daily life. You are on a sinking ship. While the ship is guaranteed to sink, that outcome does not dictate your outcome. Rather, the sinking ship just provides constraints to which you can react in order to determine your outcome.  If you were on a sinking ship, you would probably try to make your way to the lifeboats and launch before the rest of the ship realized the need to do so. You probably would try to avoid being in direct command of the captain, whose foolishness caused the ship to sink in the first place. You would probably want to distance yourself as much as possible from him and his crew, the latter of which did nothing to help their commander ma

I have spoken unto you plainly that ye cannot err

The Lord has given me opportunities to speak plainly of things to come for the purpose of minimizing your suffering, increasing your faith in God, and, ultimately, to help you find the path to the greatest joy. Very, very few people have heeded what I have said. While I have carried unfathomable burdens, some fight it, most ignore it, and those who do respond are barely willing to lift the lightest burden to help carry these things to others.  Example: There is exactly one Amazon review for "Men are that they might have joy." You can't understand what it cost me to write that book, but to think that so many who have read it care little enough about it that they won't even take one minute to write a review in the event it might help someone else read it...what do you think God thinks about that? How is that not like being gifted a billion dollars and then being unwilling to give $1 to a starving person? What does it cost you to post a quote to facebook? What does it co

God appearing to you doesn't make you righteous

I've been trying very hard to focus all my limited ammunition on advancing the books the Lord has instructed me to write. I'm trying hard to avoid the temptation to spend my time giving out little things, because they are fast, rather than waiting to give the big things, because they take a lot of time. But sometimes the spirit speaks to me in ways that I can quickly convey to others. A few days ago, I was explaining to my children why it is that God can't reveal himself in glory to us without us first going through a preparatory process.  30 ...he will come...he remembereth every creature of his creating, he will make himself manifest unto all. 31 Yea, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess before him. Yea, even at the last day, when all men shall stand to be judged of him, then shall they confess that he is God; then shall they confess, who live without God in the world, that the judgment of an everlasting punishment is just upon them; and they shall quake, and tr

How will you fare with less civilization?

Modern civilization is dependent on the consistent presence of a large number of conditions that are opposite of human nature. With the majority of people openly choosing against these conditions, it is abundantly obvious to all who consider it that modern civilization has been infected by a terminal cancer which has metastasized.  That modern civilization will not survive is not a question. The only questions are: how long do we have and what will the decline look like? If you haven't done so already, it is expedient to ask yourself how you will fare as the pillars of civilization crumble.  Here are some questions to ask yourself: When you can no longer rely on norms of civil behavior from your neighbors, how will you fare?  What would you do if you lost access to drugs (recreational or prescribed) that you use regularly? What would you do if you lost the ability to instantly order anything you wanted off of Amazon? What would you do if you lost your job? What would you do if many

Intentionally raising kids in a topsy-turvy world

Do you send your kids to public school? Have you looked at the outcomes of this path for others who have done so? Do you think your kids will magically end up different? Do you home school? If so, what are you teaching them? Do you think the best you can do is teaching in the home the same ineffectual slop they serve up in public schools? It's time to think about what you are doing, and honestly apply the capability God gave you to figure out and do what is best for your kids. Historically, a child's formative years would be spent apprenticing adults in what they do. Boys worked with their fathers. Girls worked with their mothers. Boys knew exactly what it meant to be men. Girls knew exactly what it meant to be women. It didn't take very long to reach competency in this immersive environment. Individuals could still choose whether to embrace or eschew the example they were given, but they knew very well what reality was like. Fast forward to today. The development of childr

Woe, woe, woe to the Mormons

In ancient times, God chastised the house of Abraham through his servant Paul, instructing them that their blessings could only be claimed through their individual obedience to God's word, and not solely by virtue of their heritage. And now, because God is no respecter of persons, he chastises you for the same sin. You have assumed that you are inheritor of the blessings delivered to Joseph Smith when you have done none of the things he has done. Instead, you have strayed far from what God revealed through him. You follow the vain imaginations of your own heart, vainly assigning God's name to things he has not only not appointed, but that directly contradict the things he has said. You were meant to be a nation of Joseph Smiths--men and women who actually believe Jesus and actually do the things he says, but instead are merely a nation of Mitt Romneys--smooth faced pious hypocrites who hide the secret sins of their hearts behind the narrow scope of the temple recommend intervie

The fraying rope to the hanging sword

This morning I inquired of the Lord regarding the outcome of the US presidential election. I had a discussion with him about pros and cons of this election outcome.  What would you do if you were God and you wanted to send as dramatic a signal as possible regarding the awful state of our nation while mercifully holding back as many consequences as possible? You would probably keep that sword over our heads dangling by the tiniest little thread, and swaying ominously. You would increase the swaying and allow the rope to fray to its thinnest possible state. You would probably allow Trump to win, but you would do so: 1) With the smallest possible margins, by electoral vote and also within states. You would provide clear evidence of an irreparable divide in every corner of this country, showing people that when the dam breaks, nothing but righteousness and God's justice will protect you. 2) While providing indisputable evidence of the saturation of our government and society at all lev

Delight your soul in fatness

This morning I was complaining to the Lord about the utter lack of the simplest positive qualities in mankind (see Helaman 12, for example).  As is my custom, part of my prayer was in worshipping the Lord's goodness. The spirit guided my praise of him, and at one moment I was recounting how good he has been to me in creating an insatiable desire to learn more about him. The spirit flashed into my mind all the people the Lord has placed in my path who either had something to teach me or presented situations that suggested questions I could take to the Lord, and how as these people became fewer and farther between, he has been so willing to teach me directly.  He then unexpectedly answered a question I asked him a few years ago regarding the following scripture: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6) My question was: "Lord, I always hunger and thirst after righteousness. But I have never been filled. What does thi

How we are to know the will of the Lord in specific cases

Yesterday I was asked some sincere questions about how we are to know the will of the Lord in specific cases. It's a seemingly simple question, but I could not wade through the volumes of information God had taught me on the topic. This morning I inquired of the Lord, asking him how I am supposed to answer this type of question in less than a book. He immediately replied: "Heed and diligence. A person cannot know me better than they do if they do not first obey what they already know about me. It is both dishonest and ineffectual to seek to know more about me before deciding to obey all that I command. I have given man the power to obey all my commandments. While learning more about me is a process, obeying me is a choice. Effort in seeking to learn more about me will yield the greatest progress in a person who has already chosen to obey all that I have and all that I will command. If someone asks you this, tell them to first repent and obey everything they already know but do

Coronavirus and the inability of people to wrap their heads around "gradual"

It seems modern people are particularly inept at understanding gradual phenomena. They can understand things that happen all of the sudden. For example, the death of a loved one, a car crash, or winning the lottery. They can't understand things that happen gradually. For example, the erosion of freedom, the accumulation of capital, or the adulteration of culture. Let's analyze a single case of the latter: the coronavirus. Many were faked out by the initial spike in deaths, thinking that the world was going to end in a continuous exponential increase of deaths. When that spike dipped downward, even more people found it a convenient point of evidence to fit their hope that coronavirus was no big deal. It turns out that neither perspective was correct, and we've had a relatively stable average death rate of 1,000 per day since then. The numbers, at this point, paint a surprisingly consistent picture: coronavirus reliably kills more than 3% of those who test positive for it in

For the love of dog

Many people today have dogs as pets. Some of these people, particularly those under 30, keep dogs instead of having children.  Dogs are renown for their unconditional love. They are almost always ecstatic to see their owners, and they are always happy to give attention when it is wanted. Unconditional love has at least two dimensions. One dimension is how much someone cares about someone else compared to how much they care about themselves. Another dimension is how well someone knows someone else, and what they know about things in general.  Dogs care much more about their owner than they do themselves in most cases. But is that love for the specific owner, or would they love any  owner just as much? The universality of their love towards their owner, whoever that owner might be, proves the point. Dogs will love you even if you are an awful person. Dogs will love you even if you mistreat them. Dogs will love you the same no matter if you love them like God does or whether you only own

The works, designs, and purposes of God cannot be frustrated

Imagine how different your life would be if you actually believed this was true: 1 The works, and the designs, and the purposes of God cannot be frustrated, neither can they come to naught. 2 For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left, neither doth he vary from that which he hath said, therefore his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round. 3 Remember, remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men; 4 For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him. (D&C 3) A person who believes this can face anything possible in this life with unshaken confidence that God loves him, and that what he is experiencing is absolutely necessary to bring them to a gre

Take it more seriously

I received related messages from two different people. Paraphrasing, one said he was rereading one of the books I've written and learning a lot that he didn't see the first time. Another said that he doesn't really get the things I write until after he sees someone else talk about them, then comes back to them. I want to say some things about how all of this works. First, I want to tell you that every day I have a tremendous desire to shout the things I have been taught from the rooftops because it is a tremendous thing to know the value of these things yet be surrounded by those who do not yet have them. I am inhibited in my desire by the daily realization of the harm it would cause to do so. You might be confused by that seeming contradiction. In the briefest terms, when light is revealed, it changes things. Here are the changes that happen: 1) Those who are willing and prepared (those are two different things) to receive the light will be catalyzed to become and obtain m

Priests failing to distinguish between the clean and unclean

The Catholic pope recently endorsed same-sex marriage . The Catholics are not the first so-called Christian sect to do this, and they won't be the last. The issue here is not same-sex marriage. It is the endorsement of sin and the allowance for people to remain in the sect's church while in sin, which is contrary to the Lord's commandments. The idea that you can willfully sin and still remain in a Christian church is a relatively new one. In Mosiah 26 we read that it was the first time that people openly disobeyed the commandments and still thought they could remain in the church Alma had founded. It was so plainly understood that you have to actually repent to be baptized into the church that they had never had to deal with it before.  Alma inquired of the Lord, and the Lord replied: 27 And then I will confess unto them that I never knew them; and they shall depart into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 28 Therefore I say unto you, that he that will n

Unwearyingness

If you feed an organism, it will reproduce.  Most men have wicked hearts. Almost everyone, in fact. If you feed them, they will just use the energy to produce more evil.  Resources magnify whatever is in a person's heart. If you make a righteous man a king, he will use those resources to bless people more than he otherwise could. If you give those same resources to a wicked man, he will oppress mankind far more than he could have as an individual. Today's world features unprecedented resources. Instead of using them to bless mankind, we use them for pleasure at the expense of others. Interestingly, what is a great snare for almost everyone is precisely what is needed for the righteous to do what no one else has done since the foundation of the world.  Think of what Elijah, Moses, Noah, and John the Baptist had at their disposal. Do you realize what they could have done with the food, shelter, climate control, transportation, and internet we have? Nephi was commended by the Lord
